Former Lviv City Council official accused of bribery to be tried

It was established that the former acting head of one of the departments of the Lviv City Council, during his tenure, developed a scheme for unlawful receipt of illegal benefits for making “positive” decisions within his competence. The official involved an accomplice in his criminal activity.

Investigators of the Serious Crimes Investigation Department (detectives) of the Lviv Police Investigation Department together with operatives of the SBU Office in Lviv region, under the procedural supervision of the Lviv Regional Prosecutor’s Office, documented the fact that the offenders received a USD 1,500 bribe from an entrepreneur for preparing and approving documentation for the reconstruction and redevelopment of a building located in the central part of Lviv.

On 15 August, law enforcement officers detained the official on receiving the second part of the USD 1,000 bribe in accordance with Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine.

The pre-trial investigation in the criminal proceedings initiated under Part 3 of Article 368 (Acceptance of an offer, promise or receipt of an unlawful benefit by an official) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine has been completed. The indictment was sent to the court for consideration.

As for his accomplice, the indictment was sent to the court under Part 5 of Article 27 – Part 3 of Article 368 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (Aiding in acceptance of an offer, promise or receipt of an unlawful benefit by an official).

The defendants face imprisonment for a term of five to ten years with disqualification to hold certain positions or engage in certain activities for up to three years, with confiscation of property.
