A resident of Zolochiv region will be tried for keeping drugs, psychotropic substances and weapons in his car

Under the procedural leadership of the prosecutors of the Zolochiv District Prosecutor’s Office, the pre-trial investigation was completed and an indictment was sent to the court against a 49-year-old resident of Zolochiv Oblast on the facts of offering and promising a police officer illegal benefits, illegal acquisition, storage and transportation of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances without the purpose of sale, as well as illegal acquisition and storage of firearms without a permit prescribed by law (Part 1 of Article 369, Part 1 of Article 309, Part 1 of Article 263 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

The pre-trial investigation established that in May of this year, as a result of a violation of traffic rules, police officers stopped the vehicle driven by the accused. As it was later established, the driver was driving the specified car in a state of drug intoxication.

In order to avoid being brought to administrative responsibility, the suspect offered and later promised to provide the law enforcement officers with 6,000 hryvnias of illegal benefits, which the latter refused to receive and called an investigative-operational team to the scene.

During the inspection of the car, a psychotropic substance – amphetamine, a particularly dangerous narcotic – cannabis extract was discovered and seized.

It was also discovered that the accused kept a short-barreled firearm without having the permission provided by law.

The pre-trial investigation was carried out by the investigators of the Zolochiv District Regional Police Department of the Provincial Government of the Lviv Region.

Note: in accordance with Art. 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is considered innocent of committing a crime and cannot be subjected to criminal punishment until his guilt is proven in a legal manner and established by a court verdict.
