Lviv region police detain offender who shot at grader driver

The detainee, who was in a state of alcohol intoxication, fired several times with a pneumatic weapon at the 52-year-old victim, hitting him twice in the arm.

The offender faces up to seven years’ imprisonment for his crime.

On 28 October, at around 14.20, the police received a report that shots had been fired on Ostrowczyk Street in Brody.

Crews of patrol police response teams, an investigative team, and officers of other services of the Police Department No. 1 of the Zolochiv District Police Department in Lviv immediately arrived at the scene.
As law enforcement officers found out, a 42-year-old local resident started a conflict with a grader driver who was carrying out road works. During the dispute, the offender pulled an air gun from his pocket and made four shots in the direction of the driver, after which he fled. The victim was taken to hospital with an arm injury.

The police established the offender’s whereabouts and detained him in accordance with Art. 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine.

Law enforcement officers seized the weapon and, under the procedural supervision of the Zolochiv District Prosecutor’s Office, served the “shooter” a notice of suspicion of committing a criminal offence under Part 4 of Art. 296 (Hooliganism) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The article provides for imprisonment for up to seven years.

The pre-trial investigation is ongoing, and the issue of choosing a measure of restraint is being decided.
