Police expose suspect in illegal sale of weapons and ammunition in Brody

It was established that a 33-year-old resident of Brody purchased starter pistols, which he later modified to fire traumatic ammunition, and also modified standard traumatic ammunition fitted with rubber bullets, increasing their power.

He sold the recycled “goods” to people he found on the Internet, sending them mail under a false name.

The offender was exposed by operatives and investigators of the Police Department No. 3 of the Stryi District Police Department jointly with the Criminal Investigation Department of the Lviv Police, under the supervision of the Stryi District Prosecutor’s Office.

The police documented several facts of illegal sale of weapons and ammunition by the suspect and detained him on 19 September in accordance with Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine.

During the authorised searches, law enforcement officers found and seized several short-barreled weapons, ammunition of various calibres, cartridges, powder, tools for modifying weapons and other material evidence. All seized items were sent to the Lviv Scientific Research Forensic Centre of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine for examination.

The detainee was served a notice of suspicion of committing a criminal offence under Part 1 Article 263 (Illegal handling of weapons, ammunition or explosives) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The article provides for imprisonment for a term of three to seven years.

The pre-trial investigation is ongoing.
