In Chervonohrad, a passerby attacked a woman and a man sitting on a bench for no apparent reason

Lviv region: Police detain attacker suspected of murdering a stranger and attempted murder of a man

On 27 September at 14.20 on Taras Shevchenko Avenue in Chervonohrad, a passer-by attacked a woman and a man sitting on a bench for no apparent reason and stabbed them numerous times. The woman later died in hospital from her injuries, while the man was hospitalised and is in intensive care.
The attacker fled the scene.

The investigative team, patrol police response teams and officers of other services of the Chervonohrad District Police Department were involved in solving the crime. Law enforcement officers identified the deceased and the injured – they were residents of Transcarpathia. The woman was 44 years old, the man – 40.

The police quickly established the offender’s whereabouts and detained him in accordance with Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine. The detainee was identified – it was a 34-year-old resident of Chervonohrad, who had previously been repeatedly prosecuted for murder.

Investigators of the territorial police unit, under the procedural supervision of the Chervonohrad District Prosecutor’s Office, served the detainee a notice of suspicion of committing a crime under Part 2 Article 15, Clause 1, Clause 7, Clause 13, Part 2 Article 115 (completed attempted murder of two persons, committed for hooliganism and by a person who has previously committed murder) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The maximum sentence facing the suspect is life imprisonment.

The pre-trial investigation is ongoing.
