The 41-year-old resident of the city of Stebnyk faces up to ten years in prison for the crime.
According to law enforcement officers, on August 9 at around 3:00 p.m. in one of the shopping centers in Drohobych, an unknown man grabbed a purse belonging to one of the visitors and ran away. The victim chased the attacker, but was unable to catch up with him, so she reported the incident to the emergency line 102. According to the applicant, there was a purse with cash in the amount of one and a half thousand hryvnias and other property.
Detectives of the criminal police and investigators of the Drohobytsky district police department, as well as employees of the criminal analysis department of the Lviv region police were involved in solving the crime. The victim provided a detailed description of the fugitive, so the law enforcement officers conducted a complex of operative and search measures, studied the recordings of video surveillance cameras placed as part of the “Safe Lviv Region” program, and established the identity and location of the intruder.
He turned out to be a 41-year-old resident of Stebnyk. The police detained him in accordance with Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine when he was returning home.
Investigators of the territorial division of the police, under the procedural guidance of the Drohobytsk District Prosecutor’s Office, informed the detainee of the suspicion of committing a criminal offense provided for in Part 4 of Article 186 (Robbery) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The sanction of the article provides for punishment – deprivation of liberty for a term of seven to ten years.
The pre-trial investigation is ongoing, the court chose a preventive measure for the suspect – detention.
The law enforcement officers remind once again that in the conditions of martial law, the maximum punishments are provided for committing theft, robbery, robbery, extortion, as well as for misappropriation, waste of property or possession of it by abuse of official position.
