A rise in flu and ARVI cases in the Drohobych community was reported by Volodymyr Chuba, Head of the Health Department of the Drohobych City Council, during an operational meeting on December 23. Over the past week, 345 new cases were recorded, 24 more than the previous week.
The highest infection rates were observed among children aged 5–14, adults aged 30–64, and children under 4 years old.
No COVID-19 cases were identified among the reported viral infections.
High-risk groups for complications remain elderly individuals and those with chronic illnesses. Healthcare professionals are urging vaccination, emphasizing that the flu vaccine is safe, effective, and provides protection against current strains, significantly reducing the risk of severe complications.
Additionally, 581 patients were hospitalized in the community’s medical facilities last week with various diagnoses. Volodymyr Chuba noted a significant increase in hospitalizations, requiring doctors to work overtime and under intensified conditions.
Among the hospitalized:
- 16 patients were diagnosed with a heart attack;
- 17 patients suffered a stroke.
A total of 85 surgeries were performed during the week, 36 of which were urgent.
In the maternity department of the Drohobych City Hospital, 12 babies were born, including 8 boys and 4 girls.
