In Lviv, a 42-year-old man extorted money allegedly for his daughter’s treatment

The Lviv Regional Prosecutor’s Office appealed in the Court of Appeal the decision of the court of first instance for a 42-year-old resident of Donetsk Oblast, who was convicted of fraud (Part 2 of Article 190 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

By the judgment of the district court, he was sentenced to 3 years and 1 month of imprisonment and released from serving the sentence with a probationary period.

It was established that last October in Lviv, a previously convicted man defrauded a local woman.

An 85-year-old woman was called, introduced herself as a doctor and told a fictional story. They talked about the fact that her daughter was allegedly involved in a road accident and urgently needed money for her treatment, for which a representative of the hospital would come. Why did the mother immediately agree. After the call, the accused came to the apartment of an elderly woman, who believed her and gave her all her savings – $8,000.

The prosecutors, considering the sentence too lenient for such a crime, challenged it on appeal.

The court supported the prosecution’s position and passed a new verdict. According to which the accused was sentenced to the actual measure of punishment – 3 years of imprisonment.
