The law enforcement officers were able to establish the identity of the attackers with the help of video surveillance cameras located within the framework of the “Safe Lviv Region” program.
On October 9, around 9:00 p.m., the operative line 102 received a message from the doctors of one of the Lviv hospitals about a patient, a 78-year-old resident of Lviv, who was diagnosed with, in particular, “open craniocerebral trauma.” She is currently in intensive care.
As the law enforcement officers later established, the woman was injured as a result of the attack that took place on October 9 around 8:00 p.m. on the territory of one of the Lviv educational institutions on Pid Goloskom street in Lviv.
Criminal police operatives and investigators of police department No. 1 of Lviv district police department No. 1, as well as employees of the Department of Criminal Analysis, forensic experts, dog experts and employees of other police services of the Lviv region were involved in solving the crime.
A complex of operational and search measures was conducted, during which it was established that the woman was returning home from the cottage when she was unexpectedly attacked by two intruders. One of them inflicted numerous blows on her head with a metal armature, causing the victim to lose consciousness. Then the attackers took away from the pensioner a utility bag with groceries, cash in the amount of 700 hryvnias and ran away.
Later, passers-by discovered the injured woman and called an ambulance to the scene.
After studying the recordings of video surveillance cameras located as part of the “Safe Lviv Region” program, law enforcement officers established that two residents of Zakarpattia Oblast, aged 30 and 43, were involved in the crime. Law enforcement officers established their location and detained them in accordance with Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine. The detention was carried out with the support of soldiers of the special purpose battalion of the police of the Lviv region.
Soon, the investigators, under the procedural guidance of the Galicia District Prosecutor’s Office, will inform the youngest of the attackers of the suspicion of committing crimes, provided for in part 2 of article 15, part 2 of paragraph 6 of article 115 (Attempt to murder) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine and part 4 of article 187 (Robbery) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The maximum punishment provided by the sanctions of the articles is life imprisonment with confiscation of property.
The senior perpetrator will be notified of the suspicion of committing a criminal offense provided for in Part 4 of Article 187 (Robbery) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. He faces a sentence of eight to fifteen years in prison with confiscation of property.
The pre-trial investigation is ongoing, and the court will soon choose preventive measures for the detainees.
