Police detain car wash worker who illegally seized client’s car in Lviv region
A 27-year-old resident of the Kherson region drove another man’s Volkswagen Touareg without permission, damaged it, left it and fled. Law enforcement officers soon detained the offender in Zhytomyr region. He faces up to five years in prison for his crime.
On 2 November, at around 12.50 a.m., a resident of Lviv reported to the 102 operational line that his car had been stolen, which he had left at a car wash in the Shevchenkivskyi district.
Criminal police operatives, investigators and employees of other services of the Police Department No. 1 of the Lviv District Police Department No. 1, as well as criminal investigation operatives and employees of the Criminal Analysis Department of the Lviv Police were involved in solving the crime.
Law enforcement officers established that an employee of the car wash was involved in the crime. He is a 27-year-old resident of Kherson region. Taking the keys, he drove away in an SUV, and when he discovered that he had damaged it, he left it and fled.
Following the measures taken, law enforcement officers established the whereabouts of the offender and detained him in accordance with Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine in Zhytomyr region.
Investigators of the territorial police unit, under the procedural supervision of the Galician District Prosecutor’s Office, opened a criminal proceeding under Part 1 of Art. 289 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (Illegal seizure of a vehicle). The article provides for a sentence of restriction of liberty for a term of three to five years or imprisonment for the same term.
The pre-trial investigation is ongoing, and the court will soon choose a measure of restraint.
