In Lviv, the law enforcement officers informed about the suspicion of a criminal who extorted money from a “client” allegedly for renting an apartment

The suspect, a 47-year-old resident of Kharkiv, was exposed by operatives of the Cybercrime Countermeasures Office in Lviv Region together with investigators of Lviv District Police Department No. 1, under the procedural guidance of the Galician District Prosecutor’s Office.

As the law enforcement officers established, the suspect created and placed on one of the profile sites on the Internet a false advertisement about renting an apartment in Kyiv.

This announcement was responded to by a woman from Lviv, who later transferred the money to the perpetrator as a prepayment for renting an apartment in the amount of 2,000 hryvnias, which she later appropriated.

After finding out that she was a victim of fraud, the victim turned to the police for help.

The investigators informed the perpetrator of the suspicion of committing a criminal offense provided for in Part 3 of Article 190 (Fraud) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The sanction of the article provides for punishment – a fine of four thousand to eight thousand tax-free minimum incomes of citizens or deprivation of liberty for a period of three to five years.

The pre-trial investigation is ongoing, law enforcement officers are checking the suspect’s involvement in committing other similar crimes.
