Woman sets fire to a store in Lviv

No one was injured in the fire; the fire damaged the front door to the store, equipment and some of the goods. The damage to the store is being assessed.

The police received a report of a fire in a store located on Bohdan Khmelnytsky Street in Lviv on April 18 at around 1:30 am.

The investigative team, forensic experts and other services of the Police Department No. 1 of the Lviv District Department No. 1, as well as rescuers, immediately arrived at the address.

After localizing the fire, law enforcement officers found that the cause of the fire was arson. The fire damaged the front door to the store, equipment and some of the goods. No one was injured.

As a result of the measures taken, having studied the video surveillance footage of the “Safe Lviv Region” system, law enforcement officers identified the offender involved in the arson and detained her in accordance with Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine.

The detainee was identified as a 43-year-old resident of Lviv. The woman brought paper and cardboard to the official entrance of the commercial establishment, poured flammable substance on it, set it on fire and fled.

Investigators of the territorial police unit, under the procedural supervision of the Halychyna District Prosecutor’s Office, served her a notice of suspicion of committing a criminal offense under Part 2 of Article 194 (Intentional destruction or damage to property) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The sanction of the article provides for imprisonment for a term of three to ten years.

The pre-trial investigation is ongoing, and the court will soon choose a measure of restraint against the suspect.
