In Lviv, an intruder wanted to rob the apartment of a 76-year-old Lviv resident under the pretext of checking the gas meter

Under the pretext of checking the gas meter, the detainee entered the apartment and stole a significant amount of money from the room.

On July 22, a 76-year-old man from Lviv, who lives on Simonenko Street, filed a theft complaint with the Lviv District Police Department #2. According to the pensioner, around 5:00 p.m., an unknown man rang his doorbell, who introduced himself as an employee of the gas company and said that he had to check the gas meter. The owner let the stranger into the apartment, and when he left, he discovered that money – more than 30 thousand hryvnias – had disappeared from the room. Then he turned to the police for help.

As a result of the measures taken, the operatives of the criminal police established that a 28-year-old resident of the city of Kryvyi Rih, who temporarily lives in Lviv, was involved in the theft. The police detained him in accordance with Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine, and soon the court will choose a preventive measure for him.

As a matter of fact, the investigators, under the procedural guidance of the Frankiv District Prosecutor’s Office, opened criminal proceedings under Part 4 of Article 185 (Theft) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The sanction of the article provides for punishment – deprivation of liberty for a term of five to eight years.

The pre-trial investigation is ongoing.
