In Lviv, they found a swindler who presented himself as a doctor and extorted 147 thousand hryvnias and 800 dollars from an 83-year-old pensioner

As the law enforcement officers established, an 83-year-old pensioner handed over 147,000 hryvnias and 800 US dollars to a stranger, who introduced himself as a doctor, allegedly for an urgent operation on her daughter, who, according to the perpetrator, was injured in a traffic accident.

An unknown man called the victim, introduced himself as a doctor and informed her that her daughter had been in a traffic accident, was injured and needed money for an urgent operation. The pensioner believed in this fictional story and subsequently a stranger came to her home, to whom she transferred funds in the amount of 147 thousand hryvnias and 800 US dollars. However, soon the woman found out that her daughter was not involved in the accident, but in fact she became the victim of a fraudster.

Detectives of the criminal police and investigators of police department No. 1 of the Lviv district police department No. 1, as well as operatives of the Criminal Investigation Department and employees of the Criminal Analysis Department of the Lviv region police were involved in solving the crime.

The law enforcement officers established that a 44-year-old man from Lviv was involved in the commission of the crime, who had previously been held criminally liable on several occasions. Through the conducted measures, the law enforcement officers established his whereabouts and, during the authorized search, discovered and seized material evidence of involvement in the commission of this crime.

Investigators of the territorial division of the police, under the procedural guidance of the Frankiv District Prosecutor’s Office, informed the intruder of the suspicion of committing a criminal offense provided for in Part 2 of Article 190 (Fraud) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The maximum punishment provided by the sanction of the article is imprisonment for a term of up to three years.

The pre-trial investigation is ongoing.
