In Sambor, a minibus driver hit a cyclist and ran away

The driver of the two-wheeler died at the scene from his injuries. The police are establishing the identity of the deceased.

Today, October 13, around 6:00 a.m., the police received a report that on Shevchenko Street in Sambor, an unknown driver in an unidentified car ran over a 60-70-year-old cyclist and then ran away.

The driver of the two-wheeler died at the scene of the injuries sustained as a result of the accident.

Detectives of the criminal police, investigators and crews of the response groups of the patrol police of the Sambir district police department, as well as employees of the criminal analysis department of the Lviv region police were involved in the search for the runaway driver.

Through the conducted measures, after studying the video from the Bezpechna Lvivshchyna surveillance cameras, the law enforcement officers established that the collision was committed by a Mercedes-Benz Sprinter minibus. The identity of the driver – a 32-year-old resident of the Zakarpattia region, and his place of residence – in the village of Strelki, Sambir district, were also established.

According to the fact, the investigators of the Sambir district police department opened criminal proceedings under Part 2 of Article 286 (Violation of traffic safety rules) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The sanction of the article provides for punishment – deprivation of liberty for a term of three to eight years with deprivation of the right to drive vehicles for a term of up to three years or without it.

A pre-trial investigation is underway. The issue of detaining the minibus driver in accordance with Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine is being resolved.

Law enforcement officers are establishing the circumstances of the incident.
