On January 10 at 6:40 p.m., a road accident occurred on the Yavoriv-Hrushiv highway in Yavoriv, leaving two people injured.
Details of the Incident
Preliminary investigations by law enforcement revealed that a 38-year-old driver of a Volvo XC70, a resident of Yavoriv, crossed into the oncoming lane and collided with a Volkswagen Sharan driven by a 59-year-old local resident.
As a result, two passengers of the Volkswagen, women aged 29 and 55 from Yavoriv, sustained injuries and were hospitalized.
Alcohol Influence Confirmed
Police determined that the Volvo driver was under the influence of alcohol. He was detained under Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine, and a court will soon decide on a preventive measure.
Criminal Proceedings
The police have opened a criminal case under Part 1 of Article 286-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (Violation of traffic safety rules by a person driving under the influence). The article provides for up to three years of imprisonment and a driving ban for three to five years.
Law enforcement is investigating the circumstances of the incident.
