Tragic Accident in Lviv Region: Child’s Death and Hospitalization of the Injured

In the Lviv region, a 12-year-old bus passenger died as a result of an accident – police detained the truck driver. The bus driver and two of his passengers were hospitalized.

Details of the Accident

The traffic accident occurred today, April 25, around 18:30, on the Borislav-Skhidnytsia highway in the city of Borislav, Drohobych district.

According to preliminary police findings, the driver of a MAN truck with a trailer, a 47-year-old resident of one of the villages of the Drohobych district, did not choose a safe speed and collided with a scheduled Bogdan bus, which was carrying 30 passengers, including 12 children.

As a result of the injuries sustained in the accident, a 12-year-old girl from the Drohobych district, despite the efforts of medics, died.

The 29-year-old bus driver and two of his passengers: a 69-year-old woman and an 18-year-old young man – all residents of the Drohobych district – sustained injuries and were taken to a medical facility.

Legal Consequences

The truck driver was detained pursuant to Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine. A preventive measure will soon be determined by the court.

Investigators from the transport crime investigation department of the Lviv police have opened a criminal case under Part 2 of Article 286 (Violation of road traffic safety rules) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The article’s sanction provides for punishment in the form of imprisonment for a term of three to eight years, with deprivation of the right to drive vehicles for up to three years or without such deprivation.

Lawmforcement officers are establishing all the circumstances of the incident.
