A man beat and robbed a passerby in Chervonohrad

Chervonohrad police promptly detained previously convicted offender on suspicion of robbing a passerby

Law enforcement officials once again remind that under martial law, theft, robbery, extortion, as well as misappropriation, embezzlement or seizure of property through abuse of office, are subject to maximum penalties.

On 21 August, at around 21.00, the police received a report that a local resident had been beaten and robbed in Chervonohrad on Stus Street.

Criminal police operatives and investigators of the Chervonohrad District Police Department were working at the scene. According to the police, an unknown man approached the 37-year-old local resident on the street, struck the victim several times in the face, snatched his bag with documents, bank cards, wallet, phone and other personal belongings and fled.

The law enforcers conducted a series of operational and search activities, studied the footage from the video surveillance cameras of the Safe Lviv Region system, established the offender’s location and two hours later detained him in one of the villages of the district in accordance with Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine.

The detainee was identified as a previously convicted 25-year-old resident of Chervonohrad.

Investigators of the territorial police unit, under the procedural supervision of the Chervonohrad District Prosecutor’s Office, served the detainee a notice of suspicion of committing a criminal offence under Part 4 of Art. 186 (Robbery) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The article provides for imprisonment for a term of seven to ten years.

The pre-trial investigation is ongoing, and the court will soon choose a measure of restraint against the suspect.
