“You are worried about the bank’s security service”: Lviv police officers warn how not to become victims of bank card fraud

If unknown persons call you, calling themselves bank employees and demanding to provide card account data, immediately call the police on the emergency line 102.

Thus, a 42-year-old resident of Chervonograd district contacted the police and reported that an unknown person called him, called himself a bank employee and took possession of his personal data. After that, all funds in the amount of 29 thousand hryvnias were withdrawn from the victim’s card.

In the same way, a 68-year-old woman from Lviv suffered from fraudulent actions, who was allegedly called by a bank employee, and, after learning the necessary data, took possession of the pensioner’s funds from the card in the amount of more than 74 thousand hryvnias.

According to the facts, the investigators of the territorial divisions of the police opened criminal proceedings under Part 2 of Article 190 (Fraud) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The maximum punishment provided by the sanctions of the article is imprisonment for a term of up to three years.

Pre-trial investigations are ongoing.

The police once again warn: in order not to become a victim of fraud, in no case do not provide your personal data, bank card number and expiration date, PIN code, CVV2/CVC2 codes, Internet banking passwords, code word or other information to unknown persons, even if they are called bank employees. Remember: bank employees never call and ask for bank account or card information.

Also, do not respond to SMS messages purporting to be from the bank – this way, criminals gain access to your bank accounts, from where they withdraw all savings, transferring them to controlled bank accounts.

If you receive calls or SMS messages, call the bank (the hotline number is indicated on your card or on the official websites of the banks), and immediately contact the police at number 102. Do not be deceived!
