The owner of the rented house will be responsible for the deaths of people in Strya from carbon monoxide

Under the procedural leadership of the Stryi district prosecutor’s office, a 40-year-old local resident was notified of suspicion of violating fire regulations, which caused the death of people (Part 2, Article 270 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

According to the investigation, the owner of an apartment in Strya illegally and arbitrarily, without a gas distribution company, connected gas devices with the discharge of combustion products into chimneys.

Having failed to ensure the maintenance of the gas supply system, in January 2024, the suspect rented out the apartment to a couple on a daily basis. As a result, a woman and a man were poisoned by a lethal concentration of carbon monoxide.

The bodies of the latter were discovered by the owner of the house.

The pre-trial investigation is carried out by investigators of the Stryi district police department of the Main Department of the National Police in Lviv region.

Note: in accordance with Art. 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is considered innocent of committing a crime and cannot be subjected to criminal punishment until his guilt is proven in a legal manner and established by a court verdict.
