In Lviv, an organised criminal group sent parcels with drugs to prison

Group of people was served a notice of suspicion for sending drug parcels to prison

Under the procedural supervision of prosecutors of the Halych District Prosecutor’s Office of Lviv, a group of people was served a notice of suspicion. They are charged with illegal acquisition, transportation, storage and sale of narcotic drugs (Part 2 of Article 307 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

According to the investigation, in Lviv, a woman and a man organised a channel for the supply and sale of methadone to drug addicts in prisons.

To do this, they placed the “product” inside a tube of medicinal ointment and put it in a box with food. Subsequently, they sent it by post to the prison under fictitious personal data. However, during the inspection of the parcel, the criminal plan of the defendants was exposed.

As a result of searches at the suspects’ places of residence, the SBU found and seized prohibited substances, bank cards, mobile phones, draft records and other material evidence.

The pre-trial investigation is being carried out by investigators of the Main Department of the National Police in Lviv region, with operational support provided by the DCO in Lviv region of the SBU.

Note: In accordance with Article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is presumed innocent of committing a crime and shall not be subjected to criminal punishment until his or her guilt is proved in accordance with the law and established by a court verdict of guilty.
