Lviv residents face eight years in prison for deceiving and displacing resettlers under the pretext of renting out housing

The suspect faces imprisonment for up to eight years.

According to cyberpolice officers in Lviv region together with investigators of police department №1 of Lviv district police department №1, a 35-year-old Lviv resident created a page under a fictitious name in a specialized group in one of the social networks, where she posted ads .

These advertisements referred to premises located on Bohdan Khmelnytsky, Uhorska and Pekarska streets in Lviv. At the same time, she did not own any of these apartments and had no legal grounds to rent them out.

In the future, the attacker, using messengers and banking Internet applications, received from “customers” who intended to rent a home, money as a deposit and stopped communicating with them. The sums seized by the swindler ranged from 600 to 3,000 hryvnias.

Law enforcement officers documented three episodes of illegal activity of a Lviv resident and, under the procedural guidance of the Halych District Prosecutor’s Office, informed her about the suspicion of committing crimes under Part 3 of Article 190 (Fraud) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The sanction of the article provides for imprisonment for a term of three to eight years.

The pre-trial investigation is ongoing.
