Prosecutors of the Galician District Prosecutor’s Office in Lviv have sent an indictment to court against a 33-year-old Lviv resident. He is charged with theft, violation of privacy, fraud, kidnapping, misappropriation of official documents and unauthorised interference with information (automated), electronic communication, information and communication systems, electronic communication networks (Part 4 of Article 185, Part 1 of Article 182, Part 4 of Article 190, Part 1, 3 of Article 357, Part 1 of Article 361 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
The investigation established that in December 2023 in Lviv, the accused stole a backpack from a local resident. The backpack contained keys, a mobile phone with a SIM card, money, bank cards and a passport.
Subsequently, using the victim’s personal data, he logged into his Privat24 account using his mobile phone. In the same way, he logged in to UKRSIB online and Monobank online banking, gaining access to the victim’s accounts and funds.
In addition, the man repeatedly carried out financial transactions allegedly from the account holder – he took out loans. The funds were credited to the victim’s accounts. Later, he withdrew this money in cash, as well as the money that was available on the accounts before the theft, transferred it to other people’s cards or paid for goods and services.
In this way, the defendant seized over UAH 110 thousand.
The pre-trial investigation in the criminal proceedings was carried out by investigators of the Lviv District Police Department No. 1 of the Main Directorate of the National Police in Lviv region.
Note: In accordance with Article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is presumed innocent of committing a crime and shall not be subjected to criminal punishment until his or her guilt is proved in accordance with the law and established by a court verdict of guilty.
