Pedestrian killed in road accident in Lviv district

The road accident occurred on 29 October, around 22.30, on the Ternopil-Lviv-Rava-Ruska motorway near the village of Smerekiv, Lviv district.

As law enforcement officers have preliminarily established, the driver of a Mercedes-Benz, a 58-year-old resident of Sheptytskyi district, hit a pedestrian, a 46-year-old resident of a village in Lviv district. The man was then thrown into the oncoming lane, where he was hit by a Citroen C4 driven by a 36-year-old resident of Lviv district.

The pedestrian died on the spot from the injuries sustained in the accident.

Investigators of the Transport Crimes Investigation Department of the Lviv Police opened criminal proceedings under Part 2 of Article 286 (Violation of the rules of road safety) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The sanction of the article provides for imprisonment for a term of three to eight years with or without deprivation of the right to drive vehicles for up to three years.

Law enforcement officers are establishing the circumstances of the incident and the identity of the deceased pedestrian.
