Two residents of Luhansk region will be tried for fighting on the side of the occupiers

Prosecutors of the Lviv Regional Prosecutor’s Office sent to court an indictment against two Ukrainian citizens.

They are charged with high treason, participation in a terrorist organisation and activities of armed groups not provided for by law (Articles 111(1) and (2), 258-3(1), 260(2) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

The investigation established that in 2022, residents of Luhansk region voluntarily sided with the enemy. They joined the illegal armed formation of the “people’s police” of the “luhansk People’s Republic” terrorist organisation.

The men served in military units that are part of the Russian Armed Forces. They were enrolled as riflemen and grenade launchers.

The defendants received Russian-style uniforms and other military equipment. They underwent full military training and acquired skills in the use of weapons, mastered the tactics of combat, assault, attack, and retreat.

During the war, the men repaired military equipment, strengthened the firing positions of the Russian Armed Forces for combat, arranged trenches, built dugouts and performed guard duty. Their duties also included guarding the ammunition depot, unloading and loading ammunition.

Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, the fighting has been taking place in the settlements of Luhansk, Donetsk and Kharkiv regions.

Their activities were suspended due to their detention by the Ukrainian Defence Forces.

The special pre-trial investigation was conducted by investigators of the SBU Office in Lviv region.
