The Lviv Regional Prosecutor’s Office succeeded in maintaining the sentence for a Ukrainian citizen, who was found guilty of treason. The Ternopil Court of Appeal upheld the decision of the first instance court, sentencing him to 15 years in prison with confiscation of property.
Investigations revealed that the 73-year-old former employee of the USSR KGB, a resident of Lviv, collaborated with the FSB of the Russian Federation. He transmitted information about military facilities and critical infrastructure via Telegram. In particular, he sent a map scheme of the Yavoriv Polygon, where the locations of barracks and dormitories were marked.
On March 13, 2022, Russian troops shelled these facilities with over 30 missiles, resulting in the death of over 60 people and more than 160 injuries. The suspect was detained in June 2022; he did not admit his guilt and showed no remorse. Despite the defense’s appeal for a leniency in the sentence, the court rejected the complaint and supported the prosecutors’ arguments.
