More than half a million hryvnias stolen from humanitarian aid in Lviv – group of people detained

Under the procedural guidance of prosecutors of the Lviv Regional Prosecutor’s Office, two citizens of Ukraine were exposed and detained for illegal use of humanitarian aid for profit (Part 3 of Article 201-2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

According to the investigation, during the martial law, the residents of Lviv region organized the illegal sale of military equipment received as humanitarian aid at the expense of Ukrainian philanthropists. In addition, the men appropriated voluntary donations from citizens. Then the funds were withdrawn from the accounts through bank terminals and branches.

They were detained in accordance with Art. 208 of the CPC of Ukraine during the sale of a batch of bulletproof vests and military helmets for the needs of the Armed Forces for a total amount of 535 thousand UAH.

According to the results of the searches, bulletproof vests, military helmets, money and other evidence were found and confiscated from the defendants.

Investigative actions are underway, the issue of notifying detainees of suspicion and choosing precautionary measures is being resolved. Other persons involved in illegal activities are identified.

Pre-trial investigation in criminal proceedings is carried out by investigators of the SU GU NP in Lviv region, according to the USBU in Lviv region.

Note: in accordance with Art. 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is presumed innocent of committing a crime and may not be subjected to criminal punishment until his guilt is proved in law and established by a court conviction.
