The two criminals, residents of Lviv region, were exposed by the employees of the particularly serious crimes investigation department (detectives) of the investigative department of the police of Lviv region together with operatives of the Security Service of Ukraine in Lviv region, under the procedural guidance of the Lviv regional prosecutor’s office.
As the law enforcement officers established, the suspects sold four vehicles: “Jeep Grand Cherokee”, “Nissan X-Trail”, “Hyundai Terracan” and “Nissan Navara”, which were imported to Ukraine from abroad as humanitarian aid and intended for the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Instead of handing over the cars to the Ukrainian military, the pseudo-volunteers sold them to outsiders, making a profit of 20,700 euros, and embezzled the funds.
The perpetrators were informed of the suspicion of having committed the crime provided for in Part 3 of Article 201-2 (Illegal use for the purpose of obtaining profit from humanitarian aid, charitable donations or free aid) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The sanction of the article provides for punishment – deprivation of liberty for a period of five to seven years with deprivation of the right to hold certain positions or engage in certain activities for a period of up to three years and with confiscation of property.
The pre-trial investigation is ongoing, the issue of choosing preventive measures for the suspect and imposing an arrest on their property is being resolved.
