A man from Kyiv was detained in Lviv – he tried to bribe a law enforcement officer for destroying evidence of a crime

Under the procedural leadership of the Lviv Regional Prosecutor’s Office, a 46-year-old resident of Kyiv was exposed and notified of suspicion. He is accused of offering and providing an illegal benefit to an official in a responsible position (Part 3 of Article 369 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

According to the investigation, the suspect bribed the head of one of the offices of the Main Directorate of the National Police in the Lviv region. For this money, the man wanted to destroy evidence in criminal proceedings.

Previously, a pre-trial investigation was started against him for possession of child pornography. Prohibited content was found on his phone while trying to cross the state border.

For 5,000 euros, the law enforcement officer had to delete prohibited files from the seized mobile phone.

After the proposal to receive an illegal benefit, the employee immediately filed a corresponding statement with the law enforcement authorities and subsequently acted under their control.

The suspect was detained in accordance with Art. 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine after providing an unlawful benefit.

Investigations are ongoing.

The pre-trial investigation in criminal proceedings is carried out by investigators of the Investigative Department of the Main Department of the National Police of the region under the operational support of the Lviv Department of the Department of Internal Security of the National Police.

Note: in accordance with Art. 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is considered innocent of committing a crime and cannot be subjected to criminal punishment until his guilt is proven in a legal manner and established by a court verdict.
