Two officials of a coal mining company from Chervonohrad district will be tried for the death of a 41-year-old miner

Death of miner in Lviv region – two former officials of coal mining company to be tried

Prosecutors of the Chervonohrad District Prosecutor’s Office have sent an indictment against two former officials to court. In particular, the former underground mining foreman of a section and the assistant section manager of a local mine. They are charged with violation of safety rules during the performance of work with increased danger at work, which resulted in the death of a person (Part 2 of Article 272 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

The investigation established that the defendants, while holding managerial positions at the mine, committed a number of violations of labour protection legislation and safety rules. In particular, they failed to ensure and control the excavation work in the longwall.

As a result, in March 2019, a rock collapse occurred during the movement of sections of the mechanised longwall complex. A 41-year-old miner was killed.

The pre-trial investigation in the criminal proceedings was carried out by investigators of the Chervonohrad District Police Department of the Main Department of the National Police in Lviv Region.

Note: In accordance with Article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person shall be presumed innocent of committing a crime and shall not be subjected to criminal punishment until his or her guilt is proved in accordance with the law and established by a court verdict of guilty.
