Morshyn Resident Gets 10 Years for Murder and Mutilation of Body

Horrific Murder in Morshyn: Man Sentenced to 10 Years in Prison

Under the public accusation of the prosecutors of the Stryi District Prosecutor’s Office, a 41-year-old resident of Morshyn was found guilty of intentional murder and mutilation of a deceased body (part 1 of article 115, part 1 of article 297 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

The imposed punishment is 10 years of imprisonment.

Crime Circumstances

The prosecutors proved in court that in August 2023, in Morshyn, the accused killed the 50-year-old cohabitant of his friend. Allegedly, they were drinking alcohol together. A conflict arose between the accused and the victim, which escalated into a fight. The man beat the woman with hands and feet. As a result of the injuries received, she died.

Subsequently, in order to hide the crime and dispose of the body in parts, the suspect used a kitchen knife to sever the head and hands of the victim. He left the body in the bathroom, filling it with water, and the head in a pot. After committing the act, the man left the crime scene.

Investigation and Arrest

Almost two weeks later, neighbors called the police due to a foul smell coming from the apartment. Thanks to the coordinated work of law enforcement, the suspect was detained on the same day.

Until the court verdict becomes legally binding, the suspect will remain in custody. The pre-trial investigation was conducted by investigators of the Stryi District Police Department of the Main Directorate of the National Police in the Lviv Region. The court’s verdict will become final after the appeal period expires.
