A garment company in the Lviv region has won the “Do Your Own” business idea competition and received a development grant

She and her brother dreamed of sewing sails for sailboats. Today, however, their small sewing company makes military ammunition.

“Kolchuga is a small sewing company in the Lviv region that Yurii Sadovyi set up in 2022 as a response to the need for quality equipment in the wake of the full-scale invasion. Later, his sister Sofia joined the business.

Today, his brother is defending our country in the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, and his sister has taken over the management of the sewing workshop and has learned the technology of sewing ammunition and other military equipment.

This year, they submitted a project to the Do Your Own grant competition from the MHP-Hromada Charitable Foundation. They won and received a grant of over UAH 92,000. MHP continues to provide support to the military and veterans as part of the MHP Poruch programme.

As part of the project, the siblings purchased the appropriate automated equipment: knives, a sling cutter, a pneumatic press for installing metal fittings, a cutting ruler for fabric decks, a cutting table, and more. However, Sofia had to set up the equipment herself.

“Our defenders have a demand for high-quality military equipment. Therefore, we try to take into account the individual needs and wishes of the military in our products. Thanks to the new equipment, we will be able to speed up the production process significantly,” says Sofia.

Orders are coming in, the work is in full swing, but we want the owners to start sewing their dream sails as soon as possible.
