This is already the third meeting of working groups on updating the Development Strategy of the Lviv region for the period 2021-2027 and developing a new plan of measures for its implementation for 2024-2027.
As informed by the department of economic policy of the Lviv Regional Government, the updated strategic document will become the basis for the implementation of regional development projects, taking into account the conditions of the war and post-war period, the demographic factor, and the specifics of the development of individual territories. After all, the infrastructure of roads, transport, communication, housing and communal services are quite expensive projects to be done without taking into account spatial development plans.
The experts agreed that funds from state investment projects, international technical assistance and international financial institutions will be allocated to large infrastructure projects in view of EU strategic documents, the State Strategy for Regional Development (current document – https://cutt.ly/z369siG), the recovery program of Ukraine (project – https://cutt.ly/k362iqM ) and strategy of a specific region (current document – https://cutt.ly/U369vdh) and cross-border strategies.
What infrastructure does Lviv Oblast need?
As noted during the event, after the victorious end of the war, Ukraine will join the EU and NATO, so there will be no need for the construction of new international checkpoints in the Lviv region. Instead, the need to modernize the railway and road network to European standards will increase. The railway not only of Lviv Oblast, but also of Ukraine as a whole as a factor of security and development of foreign economic relations should be integrated into the European network. Motorways should finally be built bypassing populated areas according to all safety and capacity standards.
The construction of a cargo airport in the Lviv region is a necessary condition for increasing the volume and speed of the exchange of goods with other countries.
Equally important is the communication factor. The development of 5G coverage, the implementation of an open data policy, and an increase in the level of cyber security are a necessary condition for the full integration of Lviv Region into the global information space.
Environmental and safety infrastructure is no less important for ensuring the proper quality of life of the residents of Lviv Oblast in the future. For this, it is necessary: creation of a complex waste management system, construction of sorting lines, waste processing plant, modernization and construction of centralized sewage networks.
The development of a high-quality public transport system should ensure a high level of mobility for the residents of the region within the subregions, reduce harmful CO2 emissions into the atmosphere and solve the problem of providing personnel for the investor, no matter which community of the region he decides to invest in.
