Integration of IDPs: how NGOs of Strysia work in conditions of war

Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, Stryshchyna has sheltered more than 35,000 forcibly displaced persons.

In order to provide people with everything they need and help them adapt, in the Stryi district, in partnership with the consultation and coordination center, public organizations provide uninterrupted volunteer activities.

On February 8, the head of the public communications department of the Lviv OVA Hrystyna Shvets, the head of the Stryi RVA Bohdan Yanko, representatives of civil society institutions of Lviv and Stryi Oblast discussed the issue of working with forcibly resettled Ukrainians who left their homes due to a full-scale invasion.

Father Volodymyr Mamchyn – director of the “Caritas” Charitable Fund of the Stryi Diocese of the UGCC. He said that before the start of the war, the Foundation worked in the social sphere, in particular with young people with disabilities. The war changed the vector of activity, so now the Foundation is actively developing a project to activate social service in communities and in the humanitarian sector. Also, representatives of the Foundation provide various services for IDPs, take care of the shelter, and representatives of the organization work in the coordination and advisory center.

“We have good cooperation with public organizations, which are an integral part of the team that works for victory. I always say that everyone on their front chooses victory. We must be united and united,” Bohdan Yanko, head of the Stryi RVA, emphasized

Also during the meeting, Iryna Levytska, a representative of the “Priority 4_5_0” organization, spoke about activities focused on supporting the military. In particular, since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, representatives of the organization have handed over about 25,000 food parcels and twice a month travel to the war zone with humanitarian aid. In addition, they make trench candles for soldiers.

The importance of integration of IDPs was emphasized by Mykola Zabeida, a representative of the “NEEKA” charitable foundation.

The foundation has been working for over 25 years, before the full-scale invasion they worked with refugees and now with IDPs. They also actively cooperate with the consultation and coordination center operating in Stryi region.

As noted in the Department of Communications and Internal Policy of the Lviv Regional Government, Stryi District actively implements measures for displaced persons, the purpose of which is the effective integration of IDPs in the district, Ukrainian language courses are held here, and cultural and educational events are organized, involving IDPs.

Also, the resettled people themselves founded their public organization “IDP Aid Fund”, which is an effective mediator between local authorities and civil society institutions.
