In Lviv region, mobile operators together with local communities are preparing mobile networks for possible prolonged power outages in winter. The aim is to ensure the uninterrupted operation of base stations and public access to communications and emergency services even in the event of emergency power cuts.
Mobile base stations can operate autonomously from rechargeable batteries for approximately 4 to 8 hours. If a power cut is prolonged, the supply is switched to generators. A clear action protocol has been agreed between mobile operators and the responsible representatives of the communities for this purpose.
According to available information, 73.2% of the generators needed to power base stations have already been delivered, and almost 162 more generators are in the process of being handed over. In addition, 86.1% of contracts have been concluded with municipal enterprises and businesses for the arrangement of backup power supply for communications facilities.
To enable a swift response on the ground, staff responsible for servicing base stations have been appointed. The coordination of work and notification of those involved has been automated through a CRM system, which makes it possible to promptly monitor the condition of equipment and the start-up of backup power sources.
At present, the key task for community leaders and mobile operators is to check the actual readiness of all equipment to operate under power outage conditions and to ensure its timely connection in the event of emergency electricity cuts.
