The last EU state supported Russia’s disconnection from SWIFT: what it means

Germany supported Russia’s disconnection from SWIFT. This country was the last to refrain from imposing this sanction

This was announced by Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba on Facebook.

“We gnawed and gnawed and gnawed. The whole line of Ukrainian diplomacy worked – from the President of Ukraine to the attaché at the Ukrainian embassy. I also thank thousands of people, in particular, the Ukrainian diaspora, who are putting pressure on various governments to support this decision, “Dmytro Kuleba said.

The official decision has not been issued yet, but technical preparations for the decision and implementation of this sanction have already begun. Ukrainian diplomats dedicate this victory to all defenders of Ukraine.

Russia’s disconnection from this system will disable the country’s financial structures and hinder the transfer of funds. Consequently, it will block spending on the Russian army and significantly worsen Russia’s economic situation.

The head of the Central Bank of one of the eurozone countries believes that the decision to disconnect Russia from the global payment system SWIFT will be made within a few days, according to Reuters.

It will be recalled that SWIFT is an international interbank system for transmitting information and making payments. Its services are used by about 11 thousand banks and financial institutions in more than 200 countries, including Russia.
