In the forests of the Carpathian region, unique areas of ancient beech plantations, about 200 years old, were noticed.
Rare and valuable plants grow there, and there are also rare species of animals. Such conclusions were reached by scientists from the Lviv region after a series of studies.
Preserved areas of forests in a complex with typical mountain landscapes ensure the existence of a rich and diverse flora and fauna, which is confirmed by scientific justifications for the creation of nature reserves and objects.
In cooperation with the public organization “Danube-Carpathian Program”, the department plans to declare 12 protected objects in the forests of the Skolivskyi, Slavskyi and Sambirskyi forests.
In March 2023, at the request of the department of ecology and natural resources of the ENT, a natural monument of local importance “Blyztsi” with an area of 90.1 hectares was created in the forests of the Slavsky Forestry.
“Because in the process of granting the status of the object of the nature reserve fund, one of the main stages is the agreement of the owners and users of natural resources, we are convinced of the position of the State Enterprise “Forests of Ukraine” regarding the importance of bequeathing the unique natural complexes of the region. Granting the specified territories a nature protection status will allow preserving the remnants of indigenous natural ancient forests of the Ukrainian Carpathians,” the Department of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Lviv Oblast reported.
We would like to remind you that the category of “primeval natural monuments” is new, it appeared in the legislation in 2017, and in 2019, Lviv Oblast was the first in Ukraine to announce 4 primeval natural monuments with a total area of more than 100 hectares.
“Such objects are important as a future scientific training ground for monitoring and development of effective measures for the preservation of natural beech forests,” said the Acting Director. Oksana Viytyk, director of the department.
