In Brodiv Oblast, employees of the State Enterprise “Forests of Ukraine” recorded the largest population of bison in Ukraine – 114 heads.
These animals are mainly of the Bilaweza line – the largest and heaviest of the entire bison species. For the first time, 12 wild bison were brought to Lviv Oblast in the 1980s from Lithuania, and since 2007, a bison conservation and restoration program has been operating in Ukraine.
In total, there are about 500 individuals of European bison, or bison, as it is also commonly called, in Ukraine.
