Border guards expose twenty attempts of illegal border crossing in Lviv region

Over the weekend, border control inspectors at checkpoints prevented sixteen attempts to illegally cross the border using documents with signs of forgery.

The presenters of the fake documents were exposed at the Hrushev, Krakivets, Rava-Ruska, Shehyni, Uhryniv checkpoints and on a foreign train. Four more violators were stopped by border guards outside the checkpoints.

Five men from Kyiv, Odesa, Donetsk, Cherkasy and Zhytomyr regions presented temporary certificates of persons liable for military service and certificates from the military medical commission for inspection. Four of our countrymen from Kharkiv, Ternopil, Mykolaiv and Ivano-Frankivsk regions presented certificates of benefits for persons with disabilities as a basis for crossing the border. During the examination of the documents, border guards found a number of signs indicating that they were forged.

Two other travellers from the capital and Prykarpattia tried to convince border guards that they had booked a flight and claimed they were on a business trip. In the passport of a resident of Donetsk region, the inspector found forged stamps of permanent residence and consular registration in the Republic of Moldova. Two men from Zhytomyr and Kharkiv regions presented fictitious documents about children’s illnesses. A citizen from Zaporizhzhia had a “fake” notarised copy of his child’s birth certificate. And a resident of Ivano-Frankivsk region presented a fake certificate of a disabled person.

The border guards reported all the facts to the National Police. The men face liability under Article 358 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine for using fake documents.

The four offenders, who were moving towards the state border, were detained by the border guards of the Smilnytsia department. The men decided to cross the state border in a mountainous area, posing as tourists. During the inspection, the response team detained the travellers, who turned out to be natives of Donetsk region. Administrative documents were drawn up against the men, and the cases will be referred to court.
