For one restored historical door in Lviv, there are more. This time, as part of the city’s co-financing program, the oak gate on the street was restored. Yaroslav the Wise, 12, near the Lviv Circus. The restoration lasted about three months.

As the experts said, before the restoration, the structure and fabric of the gate were in a bad condition.

“This gate has a very nice wooden finish. Unfortunately, many decorative elements were lost, and badly damaged parts of the wood needed to be replaced. Instead of glazing the window, the gates were covered with plywood, and the authentic handles were lost. We had a lot of work ahead of us,” said restorer Bohdan Gerus.

The restorers restored the lost elements, installed new glazing of the gate and upper skylight, and also made and installed new handles. Thanks to the restoration, it was possible to extend the life of this gate for several more decades.

It is interesting that next to the gate, an authentic number plate has been preserved, with the old name of the street preserved (Y. Bema).

“The total cost of restoration works was UAH 74,000. Of this amount, the city paid almost UAH 52,000, and the rest was paid by residents who previously applied for participation in the co-financing program,” said Pavlo Bogajchyk, director of the “Heritage Bureau” LKP.

We will remind you that last year, under the coordination of the Heritage Bureau, 29 gates and 16 windows in buildings located within the historical area of the city of Lviv were restored, and 12 windows and balcony blocks were replaced from metal-plastic ones to wooden ones. A new set of applications for the co-financing program is planned for September 2023.
