Today, residents of Lviv Oblast can see the da Vinci glow around 11:00 p.m

During this phenomenon, the Earth reflects sunlight, thereby illuminating the Moon. It is also called the ashy glow of the Moon.

As The Guardian reports, this phenomenon was first explained in the 16th century by Leonardo da Vinci, in whose honor the phenomenon got its name.

Da Vinci glow – what is it

The Da Vinci Moonlight occurs when only 5% of the visible part of our satellite will be illuminated by the light of the Sun. Over time, when it gets dark, the unlit part of the moon will begin to glow faintly – this happens thanks to the so-called Earth’s glow. During this phenomenon, the Earth reflects sunlight, which illuminates the Moon.
