Lviv police detain offender suspected of inflicting fatal knife wound to acquaintance

The suspect, a 27-year-old resident of Zakarpattia, faces imprisonment for up to fifteen years.

Today, on 17 August, at around midnight, the police received a report that on Naukova Street in Lviv, an unknown attacker had stabbed another man in the chest with a knife and then fled. Paramedics who also arrived at the scene pronounced the victim dead.

The investigative team and officers of other services of the Lviv District Police Department No. 2, criminal investigation operatives and officers of the Criminal Analysis Department of the Lviv Police, as well as patrol police officers were involved in solving the crime.

Law enforcement officers identified the deceased as a 47-year-old resident of Lviv. As a result of the measures taken, having studied the video surveillance footage of the “Safe Lviv Region” system, the police established the offender’s whereabouts and detained him in accordance with Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine.

The detainee was identified – it was a 27-year-old resident of Zakarpattia, an acquaintance of the deceased. He stabbed the victim during a domestic conflict.

Investigators of the territorial police unit, under the procedural supervision of the Frankivsk District Prosecutor’s Office, opened a criminal proceeding under Part 1 of Article 115 (Murder) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The article provides for imprisonment for a term of seven to fifteen years.

The pre-trial investigation is ongoing.
