A new traffic light mode called “smart corridor” has begun operation on Zelenyi Street in Lviv. Currently, the system operates at the intersections of Zelenyi Street – Petrushevych Square and Zelenyi Street – Dorosha Street, allowing to enhance the traffic flow from the city center direction.
According to representatives of the municipal enterprise ‘Lvivelectrotrans’, the “smart corridor” functions thanks to an intelligent system that analyzes traffic using detectors and automatically determines the optimal cycle for traffic lights. Afterward, the information is transmitted to all the system’s control points, providing adaptive signal management.
The director of ‘Lvivelectrotrans’, Mykola Vlasiuk, reported that with this system, the throughput capacity of intersections has significantly improved: on Zelenyi Street – Petrushevych Square it increased by 35%, and on Zelenyi Street – Dorosha Street – by 19%.
Further expansion of the “smart corridor” is planned up to the Lvivvodokanal building after the modernization of the traffic light near the water utility. Currently, the green signal for pedestrians is activated 45 seconds after pressing the call button.
