In the regional landscape park “Znesinnia” in Lviv, near the observation deck, an artificial nest for hymenopterous insects: osmii (wild bees), wasps and others has appeared. The wooden construction in the form of a house has 8 sections with various natural materials: tree scraps, chopped reeds and other plants that insects can settle in.
“Bees are pollinators, and wasps eat pests. Therefore, such nesting is useful for the preservation of biodiversity and the study of fauna. In the fall, scientists will dismantle the house and investigate who lives there,” Taras Mykitchak, director of the Znesinnia regional landscape park, said.
There are also such insect nests in Stryi Park in Lviv. And in March of this year, small reed nests appeared for the first time on Znesinna.
Two more houses for insects are planned to be installed soon in the “Znesinnia” regional landscape park. Park workers ask visitors not to touch the nests for safety reasons.
