Law enforcement in the Lviv region uncovered a corruption scheme involving a 53-year-old head of a municipal enterprise in Stryi District. The official received 108,000 UAH in bribes from a businessman for the illegal purchase of metal, plastic, and glass from a landfill. The suspect faces up to 10 years in prison with property confiscation.
Investigators revealed that the official offered the businessman uninterrupted access to solid waste removal from the landfill without formal contracts in exchange for bribes. The price of each shipment varied based on the volume and cost per kilogram of material.
Authorities documented three instances of bribes totaling 20,000, 43,000, and 45,000 UAH. The official was detained after accepting another payment, in accordance with Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine.
He was charged under Part 3 of Article 368 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (acceptance of an unlawful benefit). This charge carries a penalty of five to ten years of imprisonment, confiscation of property, and a three-year prohibition from holding certain positions or engaging in specific activities.
The court ruled to detain the suspect with the option of bail.
The investigation is ongoing.
