Alarm signals announcing an air alarm are periodically heard in the Lviv region and the city of Lviv. In all, since the beginning of the war, sirens have reported about 70 air threats in the region.
What is the principle of operation of the alarm system?
Radar units of the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine detect a potential air threat. There are only a few minutes or less between fixing the plane or the rocket and launching the siren. The sound of a siren indicates that enemy aircraft are probably flying to the region. However, it is impossible to detect all air threats.
Civil protection alert signals are transmitted in the following sequence:
1. The sound of sirens lasting up to 3 minutes. Reports in the media, radio and television, on official websites, social networks, telegram channels to notify the Central Committee about the content of the event. Or thanks to the mobile application “Air Alarm”. Read more about the application at the link.
2. Upon receipt of the command that the threat has passed, the sirens are restarted within 3 minutes and a corresponding message is broadcast. It is dangerous to leave the shelter until you receive an “Air Alarm” signal.
The “Air Alarm” signal is broadcast throughout the Lviv region and should be followed by all.
In some cases, the alarm signals are not activated at the same time. That is, sirens can already be heard on the street, while the message on the phone has not yet arrived. This is because the entire notification system in the Lviv region consists of 8 subsystems. For security reasons, they are switched on alternately, because when one subsystem fails, the others will continue to work and notify of any threat.
