School principals in the Lviv region will be elected according to new rules

The Lviv Regional Military Administration has developed a Model Regulation on the competition for the positions of school principals.

The corresponding order was signed by the head of the Lviv regional military administration Maksym Kozytsky.

According to Oleh Paska, Director of the Department of Education and Science of the Lviv Regional State Administration, the changes will concern the formation of competition commissions that will select winners from among the candidates for the positions of school principals. In particular, a third of the competition commission will be community representatives nominated by members of the local council’s education commission. The second part – representatives of state education authorities, the third – representatives of public organizations, which will be elected by the staff of the educational institution. Therefore, the commission will be formed with the participation of representatives of the state, local self-government and civil society institutions.

“Ukrainian legislation does not provide a general provision for all communities. In practice, we have seen that school selection boards sometimes choose biased winners. Our goal is to select the best managers in the field of education, to delegate authority to the most worthy candidates with the appropriate level of knowledge and responsibility. After all, further education reform will be implemented by these newly elected school principals. And our children must receive a quality education and confidence in the future, “said Oleg Paska.

The director of the relevant department noted that candidates for the positions of school principals with a package of documents will submit applications for diplomas with the results of assessment of their knowledge. Candidates will also be tested online on electronic resources of the Ministry of Education and Science.

According to Oleg Paska, cooperation with communities will begin next week to gradually implement the proposals. In addition, the text of the document developed by the expert community of Lviv region is sent to the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine with a proposal for the possible application of such practices in other regions of the country.
