The Department of Education and Science of the Lviv State Regional Government recommends that the education management bodies and educational institutions in communities finish the educational process on June 30.
Based on the same date, the deadlines for submitting applications for admission to the 1st, 5th and 10th grades should also be determined.
This was emphasized by the director of the Department of Education and Science, Oleg Paska, today, May 9, during a briefing at the Lviv OVA.
Oleg Paska reported that the department analyzed information regarding the deadlines for the end of the academic year in various communities of the Lviv region. It turned out that the TG set different deadlines for its completion – June 5, 15 or 25. At the same time, the school administrations tied the deadlines for submitting applications for admission to these dates, in particular, to the 1st and 5th grades.
Such conflict not only brings chaos to the general educational process, but also can lead to the fact that many parents simply do not have time to submit applications for studies in the chosen schools.
Oleg Paska explained: “Let’s imagine that primary school starts on June 20, and the parents of a fourth-grader are preparing to apply to a new school. But studies at the chosen institution ended on June 5, and the deadline for accepting applications has already ended. How to apply?
Therefore, we consider it illogical to set different deadlines for completing studies in different schools. Therefore, the department draws the attention of all educational institutions of all territorial communities that in accordance with Cabinet Resolution No. 711 (https://bit.ly/3nJZ8V7), the 2022/2023 academic year ends on June 30,” Oleg Paska emphasized.
Therefore, the department recommends to all educational institutions:
end the academic year on June 30;
the application deadline for the 1st, 5th and 10th grades will be set, based on the date of June 30.
Recommendation for the “Last Bell” holiday
Our graduates, among whom there are many children whose parents are defending Ukraine from Moscow’s invasion with weapons in their hands, should not be deprived of the right to receive educational documents, diplomas and other awards in a solemn and festive atmosphere – provided that all safety standards are strictly observed. But the final decision to be or not to be a school line should be made by the pedagogical council together with the school’s parent committee.
“Our position is as follows: if security conditions allow, then our children should not suffer from the fact that we are at war. The army, state authorities, schools, parents – we all work to ensure that our children are protected and happy, that they receive a quality education and that vivid images from “The Last Bell” are etched in their memory for the rest of their lives,” he added. Oleg Paska.
