A new level of security for schools in Lviv Oblast: how the latest cloud service ensures children’s safety on the Internet
Cisco Umbrella is a modern cloud service that analyses Internet traffic and automatically blocks dangerous Internet resources before they can harm users.
In today’s world, where children are spending more and more time online, digital security is becoming one of the key requirements to ensure comfortable and safe learning. Lviv region is taking a decisive step towards creating a secure educational environment by implementing the Cisco Umbrella cloud service in its schools. Chervonohrad district was the first among all districts in Lviv region to implement this tool in all schools, with 114 educational institutions now under reliable protection from cyber threats.
Cisco Umbrella is a modern cloud-based service that analyses Internet traffic and automatically blocks dangerous Internet resources before they can harm users. This allows schools to provide safe access to the Internet, protecting students from harmful content, phishing attacks, violent or inappropriate material. Importantly, the service is provided free of charge for five years as part of a partnership between the Lviv Regional State Administration and Cisco.
With the help of Cisco Umbrella analytical tools, educators will be able to identify dangerous resources that may be of interest to students and adjust curricula in accordance with the identified trends. This will allow them to create thematic lessons on Internet safety and improve students’ digital literacy.
“This service not only protects students, but also helps to create a culture of responsible use of the Internet,” said Maksym Stoliarchuk, Head of the Digital Development Department at Lviv Regional State Administration.
Teachers and parents will also be able to track their children’s online activity, analyse potential risks and respond quickly to threats. This will become the basis for more effective work with students in the area of safe use of digital technologies.
It should be noted that the Cisco Umbrella implementation project is part of a larger initiative in Lviv Oblast to increase digital literacy among students, teachers, and parents. The Department for Digital Development of the Lviv Regional State Administration, together with the Department for Combating Cybercrime in the Lviv Region, has already conducted on-site trainings for educators, focusing on cybersecurity, media literacy, and cyberbullying. In the future, we plan to organise additional trainings for children, as we want to help them better navigate the world of digital technologies.
“We cannot ignore the threats our children face online. Our task is not only to protect them, but also to teach them how to recognise danger, make the right decisions and be responsible Internet users,” said Maksym Stoliarchuk.
The implementation of the service in general secondary education institutions in the Lviv region should be completed by 1 November 2024. After that, all schools in the Lviv region, which is more than a thousand institutions, will be connected to the monitoring, filtering and protection system, which guarantees a safe digital environment for students in the region.
Together, we are creating an environment where security and innovation go hand in hand. And this is just the beginning. Thanks to this approach, we not only protect children from dangers, but also teach them to be knowledgeable, conscious and responsible Internet users. The future of Lviv region is the safety and development of our children, and today we are laying a solid foundation for their successful and secure future.
