New academic year in Drohobychska hromada to start on September 2

This year, the new school year in Ukrainian schools will start on Monday, September 2. The decision was made by the Cabinet of Ministers.

The leadership of the state and the region repeatedly emphasizes and calls on the heads of educational institutions to ensure full-time education for all schoolchildren at the beginning of the school year.

As the head of the education department, Petro Sheviak, reported at a weekly operational meeting in Drohobych on August 5, this year the Drohobych community has 11,834 students. Of these, 505 are IDP students. For the first time, 1,000 students will sit at their desks on Knowledge Day this year.

As for the pre-school institutions of the Drohobych community, 2,581 children are enrolled in them, including 135 from among the displaced. The community’s out-of-school institutions provide educational and creative activities for more than 3,000 children.

According to the head of the community, Taras Kuchma, the task of the administrations of the city’s educational institutions is to hold explanatory talks with the families of displaced persons and to involve as many students as possible in full-time education by September 1. As of today, many IDP students in Drohobych continue to receive education through online learning. This form of education is not of high quality and in many aspects is inferior to face-to-face education and live communication between students.
